What equipment do you need to do a triathlon?
Minimum Gear for a Triathlon
- Bike Helmet. This one is a no-brainer, since all USAT-certified races (which is most of them) require the use.
- Triathlon Shorts.
- T-Shirt, or Workout Shirt.
- (for ladies) Sports Bra or Swim Top.
- Road Bike or Tri Bike.
- Cycling Shoes.
What do you need for an Olympic triathlon?
- Tri suit or swimsuit.
- Antifog solution for goggles.
- Bodyglide (skin lubricant)
- Pre-race sandals or other footwear.

- Race outfit.

What equipment do I need to train for an Ironman?
The things you’ll absolutely need for an Ironman are:
- Run. Comfortable running shoes. Comfortable running clothes. Optional: Hydration pack/bottle.
- Bike. A road bike (duh) Helmet. Optional: A triathlon specific bike. Clip in bike shoes.
- Swim. Goggles. Swim suit. Optional. Swim cap (they give you one at the race anyway) Wetsuit.
What is a tri kit?
In a triathlon you want to wear what is called a triathlon suit or a triathlon kit (a top/bottom combo) designed to be worn in the swim, the bike, and finally the run. After the swim, you strip off the wetsuit, put on your helmet, and cycling shoes and are ready to go.
Do I need a tri suit?
Triathlon suits: Not necessary, but nice-to-have. A good triathlon suit is designed specifically for triathlon, and offers benefits that may help you race faster and be as comfortable as possible.
How do I train for an international triathlon?

Do you need a tri bike for an Ironman?
You Don’t Need a Fancy Bike Seriously, you don’t need a snazzy triathlon bike to do well in one of these races. I passed a lot of Cervelo P3s and aero helmets on my road bike, a Trek Emonda I’d equipped with aero bars. I wore a regular helmet and normal jersey.

Do triathletes Pee on the bike?
On to the matter at hand – yes, some triathletes do, in fact, pee on their bikes. If it’s not obvious, triathletes pee while riding their bike so they don’t have to stop – saving precious time for competitive races.
Do you need a wetsuit for a triathlon?
For open water swims, the use of a triathlon wetsuit is usually mandatory. Under the wetsuit you would wear the tri suit or tri top & shorts. You may also need a neoprene skull cap, a pair of swim gloves and pair of booties in really cold conditions.
Do you wear a sports bra with a tri suit?
The answer is no. You should not wear underwear (except a sports bra) under your trisuit in a race. Additionally, your underwear could retain water and counteract the quick drying properties of your suit.

In a typical North American Ironman, nearly 95% of those who start will ultimately finish the race. And it’s interesting to note that even with a world-class field, Kona has a 7% DNF rate.

How hard is an Ironman?
The IRONMAN distance is legit hard. You will be challenged mightily on race day. But you can suffer better by teaching your body and mind in the preceding months to be okay with sustained discomfort (not pain; you should come to understand the difference).
